Riders navigate hundreds of miles through the most grueling of terrain; timed for points, no roads, no help, and all on their own… This is the true testing ground of Champions.

Emerging in the '50s, this sport would engage all of the club's resources, mapping the 150+ mile track layout through farms, creeks, bogs and more… These races included thousands of directional markers, hundreds of check points, and as many pit stops as the rider could manage… Each taking thousands of hours to setup and days to execute.

These events, with names like Jack Pine, Sandy Lane, and Little Burr, captured the spectator like no other. Not just an evening event, these tests were one-of-a-kind experiences.

As the spectators hurried along the route’s adjacent paved roads, carrying needed supplies, many families doubled as pit crews for their dad… the rider. And as the crews managed to check into hotels, the riders trudged along like modern-day Gladiators. Riding bikes weighing twice--if not three times--the weight of today’s modern racing machines.

We will talk with legends such as Bill Baird and Bill Maxey, having them tell the stories of these historic events.
